At 14:45 on Sunday, August 26, 2012, Kirkville Fire along with mutual aid companies were dispatched to a reported barn fire at Hoag Road just north of the CSX railroad tracks. Kirkville Rescue Pumper 4 was first to arrive and reported a fully involved barn with extension to the surrounding field. With difficult access, water supply was accomplished by Fayetteville and Minoa laying approximately 1500 feet of supply line from the closest hydrant on Poolsbrook Road north to the barricaded former Hoag Road railroad crossing. Crews then hand-laid the remaining 300 feet of 4-inch supply line over the tracks to feed the fireground. This required CSX and Amtrak to suspend rail service for several hours. Kirkville responded with Car 1, Car 2, Car 3, Rescue Pumper 4, Engine 3, Squad 2, Squad 1 and our tractor-dozer with a total of 23 personnel. Other mutual aid companies included Fayetteville, Minoa, East Syracuse, Manlius, Lyncourt and Bridgeport, as well as brush units from surrounding departments including North Chittenango, Chittenango, Lafayette, Apulia and others. Move-up companies included South Bay, Jamesville and Onondaga Hill. With temperatures hovering around 90 degrees, special thanks are extended to EAVES rehab for their services to all fireground personnel.
